Welcome Packs

Participating in Learning Circles Project you will be offered to take part in exchanging Welcome Packs.
   What is a Welcome Pack?
Welcome Pack is a letter to your partners which contains materials about school, town or city and country  where you live. You can send photos, maps, cards, posters, flags, brochures and booklets, newspapers and magazines and even sweets. Welcome Pack is usually sent in the A4 envelope. Students are usually very excited when they get such letters.
This autumn we've sent our packs to Canada, Uganda, Ukraine, Russia, Slovenia, Pakistan and Portugal and have already received letters from Portugal, Ukraine, Russia and Slovenia!
    Here are some photos!

Learning Circles (3d phase) /

The 3d phase of LC is planning sponsoring projects and discussing other participants’ sponsoring projects. Sponsoring project is a project which is suggested by one team to all the partners. When every team suggests its topic it is discussed by all the participants (teachers and students) and they should write their attitude to this topic: like, dislike, interesting, boring, unusual, simple, difficult for students. If the topic hasn’t interested the participants the team can change it or, if the team has suggested some topics,  it can choose this one which has got more positive responses. As a result defines topics on which all the teams will work in future. The number of topics will depend on the number of teams, every team has its own sponsoring topic. This phase is one of the most important in LC if we’ll speak about increasing students’ motivation  and interest. The more interesting topics for students will be defined, the more interesting will be further work.
Among such topics can be “Attractions of the Region”, “Rivers and Lakes”, “Traditional Food”, “We are the Citizens of one World” and others.
Describing sponsoring project participants should think about its aims, make up questions on which they would like to get answers. The results will depend a lot on it. Participants should consider students’ interests and think about the final project, what they can expect from their partners, if it will be interesting to them, if it will match to students’ knowledge level of English as the participants are from different countries: the USA, Uganda, Russia, Belarus, Portugal and others.
And the last – choosing the sponsoring topic look up in you curriculum and choose this one which you’ll study in December of January so you will be able to use the received from your partners material in the lessons in future.

Impressions of Participation in Learning Circles in 2011

I enjoyed LC participation, but some things didn't. Positive moments - creating presentations and sending Welcome Packs. Negative moments - not all the participants came to the end and we've received only one Welcome Pack from Ukraine, although there was arrangement with four teams.
Team work was great, it's exiting and amazing to search the information about my country and other countries, learn something new about Russia, Ukraine, the USA, Canada. I've learned a lot of useful information and informative things. I think I will take part in LC in future.
Liza Mataeva

Taking part in LC projects is fun. I liked to work in team, make projects, watch presentations from our partners. I've learned to print quickly in English and to translate better. It's a pity we have got only one Welcome Pack from Ukraine and not all the teams came to the end but I liked our LC very much.
Yulia Moroz

I liked to create projects because it is interesting and exiting. Ive learned to do computer  presentations.
Irina Shavkunova

We got good marks for our projects and I liked it. With the help of projects from other countries (the USA, Canada, Ukraine, Russia) I've learned about their sights, culture, education, nature and so on. I'm going to take part in LC in future. To do presentations is fun and isn't difficult.
Veronika Klimovich

I enjoyed the projects about cultural traditions from different countries and I liked the participation. I liked to answer  questions and learned a lot of new things.
Elena Dubitskaya

I liked to search information in the Internet (photos, pictures, recipes, texts) but sometimes it was boring. I've learned a lot of useful and interesting information.
 Alexandr Potachits

I liked the participation in the LC projects because a lot of countries took place in them. I've learned a lot of about traditions and customs of these wonderful countries (the USA, Russia, Ukraine). I enjoyed the group work with my classmates. I'm going to take part in these projects once more.
 Vladimir Parashchenko

I loved LC projects participation very much. We've studied a lot of useful  and interesting things about different countries, their traditions, places of interest and about people. Thanks to the projects we could study English more. Creating and watching presentations is fun. I think I'll take part in iEARN projects in future.
Elizaveta Senkovskaya

I liked to participate in LC projects because it was interesting. I've known a lot about  different countries, their customs and so on but it isn't easy to prepare presentations, it takes plenty of time.
